Job Description

These positions are located at the Veterans Healthcare Administration (VHA) within Environmental Management Service. The incumbent serves as a participant in the Technical Career Fields Program under the direction of a qualified preceptor. The Technical Career Field (TCF) is a national workforce development program within VHA that was designed to replenish technical staff in critically identified positions.

**Qualifications:**
To qualify for this Hospital Housekeeping Program Specialist -Technical Career Field (TCF) Trainee at the GS-9 grade, applicant(s) must meet at least one of the following minimum qualifications. EXPERIENCE: Requires one full year of specialized experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience must be in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the position to be filled: Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment. Experience in laundry and linen management. Experience in interior design management. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition. Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals. OR EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Qualifying Education is a major study in public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration. OR COMBINATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed Graduate-level education (in excess of one year) and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. To meet this requirement, education and experience must be related to the position, as described above. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employee walks through the medical center, will be trained in all aspects of EMS which requires stooping, bending, walking, lifting, twisting. Occasional travel will be required. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
