Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the natural gas distribution systems on Ft. Leavenworth. Perform pipeline construction and maintenance work utilizing various hand and/or power tool and equipment also serves as journeyman electrician.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Repairer-Operator ~ without more than normal supervision. -To meet the screen out element, applicants should document experience or show the ability to do the following: Reading utility maps and using locating equipment to locate and isolate natural gas distribution systems piping and equipment. Using fusing equipment to make repairs to natural gas lines and equipment. Operating odorant injection station equipment. Using voltage detection meters to troubleshoot and isolate electrical circuits and make repairs. Using heavy equipment and hand tools to excavate natural gas piping, risers and valves. Operating man lifts and bucket trucks to reach elevated systems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort - Required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring uncomfortable positions and where parts of the system are in hard to reach places. Frequently lifts and carries items that weigh up to 75 pounds and occasionally handle heavier items. Work is frequently performed in excavated ditches. Working Conditions - Works inside and outside in all types of weather. The work is usually dirty, dusty and greasy. Exposed to mud, water and gas fumes and electrical hazards. Uses all provided Personal Protective Equipment to safely perform all duties.
